Your art is worth more than you think.It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a person in possession of a good fortune must be in want of art.
If you've ever taken a look at the job-offers part of any forum or site, you'll notice two tendencies that occur online. The first is that a lot of people look for art, some for the cheapest possible price at the best possible quality. The other is that a lot of people are willing to low-ball even more than the initial offer simply to snag the job.
Because if they don't offer cheaper art than the rest, they wouldn't be getting the job, or so the line of thought most likely goes.
You see people selling full-body, detailed renderings for $10, or people who sell pixel art for 50 points. But why?
A reminder should be sent out telling people that their art is worth so much more than they think. And this is why I can highly advise these journals if you plan to price and sell your art.

Here are some handy resources concerning the "free art"-people. First of all, there's this handy flowchart called "Should I Work For Free?.
If they say they'll pay you with:
-Exposure
-Eventual cut of the profit when profits are made
-No pay, since artists "shouldn't be sell-outs, but draw for fun"
Then run for the hills and get away as fast as you can.
Because if it's for a game, a comic or another for-profit project, the most normal response should be "Fuck you. Pay me." (worded politer, though that goes without saying).

I´m sorry but today will be kind of a journal spam, you don´t need to read all of course, but there has been a lot I wanted to say for such a long time
And as I´m home and sick, I thought I would use this time to get some thoughts out ♥

This is about COMMISSIONS and art in general.

I know many people are upset with my commissions prices ahaha QAQ
But really, I´m already working at a minimum wage. However I also agree that I am expensive if you compare with the other artists on dA. Which I think is sad.
It is not that I´m expensive on purpouse. I´m selling my art what it is worth for my time.

Is one thing if I need emergency money, but when you do this for fun, then yes, it should not be for free ;;;
It is my time and experience. If someone is selling something that takes them an hour to do below 10 $, yep, it is waaay under priced.
*I´m pointing at you right there*

I LOVE to buy commissions, and the more cheaper the merrier for the buyer, but really, all we do is to bring the artists downhill with this. Even if you just do commissions for fun, if you are too cheap, then everyone else will need to lower their price too or else they won´t get anything sold.

Anyways, the video explains way better than I do, so sorry for my small rant ahaha, no need for firey discussions ♥ Just putting my small opinion out here

Sadly u need high exposure on DA to have high demand so you can raise prices. Like you have such a high demand you can raise them high. Sadly not everyone can do so OTL... Like if i calculate the time and effort I put in my biggest commissions it would be easily double to price OTL (cause i spend atleast 12 hours on them) sadly it will be too much then.

I'm going for my art degree, but I recently saw on Yahoo that says people aren't looking for artists right now. THAT IS COMPLETE BULLSHIT. How do you think all of these fancy companies get commercials and stuff done? Artists. How do you think those fast food places like mc donald's and burger king have their designs on their cups and wrappers and bags? Hell even the damn KETCHUP PACKETS? ARTISTS. As much as the world may make you believe the contrary, it is an undeniable fact that WE AS ARTISTS RUN THIS BITCH. Websites? Artists. Buildings? Artists. (technically architects but same thing) Those paintings you see in the dentist's office? ARTISTS. Business Cards? ARTISTS. Like I said, we run this bitch. If it weren't for artists these companies would have a HELL of a time trying to sell their crap. Everything that guy said was true. Don't cheapen yourself, make them pay, especially when you're gonna put your valuable time and effort to make their fat corporate asses look better. Free? They can get a middle finger for free. So cheer up guys, and jack those prices up, because you're definitely worth more than you or any of these assholes think you are. So bring it ON assholes! We're ready for you.
